Any great artwork revives and readapts time and space, and the measure of its success is the extent to which it makes you an inhabitant of that world.

INTRODUCTION

Students are mostly adults, although we welcome young cellists from thirteen upwards if they are fine with playing with adults.

Each workshop usually explores one piece of music. Through it, we develop your ensemble playing skills and musical understanding through games, improvisation, analysis and singing.

Every piece you play has a rich life that stimulates exploration of musical ideas that will need technical exploration and development too. We put the music into its historical context as I feel we all need to know something of the life, character and nature of its creator. You then start building a more solid sense of the inter-connectedness of music, society, culture and artistic expression.

I hope that you too will find that what this music does for your playing is remarkable.

Students leave workshops with notes to continue the momentum and the scores, which are sent when you have booked your place, are yours to keep. I provide music stands, black holes for your spike, pencils, cushions and coffees.
